The heat is on!
This week's agenda is overflowing with preparations for Thanksgiving celebrations. Translation: housecleaning, food shopping, and cooking. One of these I hate - housecleaning. I love the effect once the chore is complete. I mean who wouldn't smile at gleaming surfaces; who wouldn't rejoice in the accomplishment of things put away where they belong? Too bad such shiny neatness never lasts beyond maybe a few days, especially when there is a furry beast living in the house.
Since the family gathering is a whole five days away, there is no point in tackling cleaning today! So that's that chore shuffled off to the bottom of the list.
Now, back to my some of my favourite things.
The menu is set more or less, the only question mark being the plum dumplings. If I can't find small blue Italian plums by Thursday, then this family favourite will not make it to the table. It won't be the first time a failed harvest made these treats a no-show, so disappointing but not a deal breaker.
The turkey has been ordered, ready for pick-up Friday morning. The pumpkin pie has been delegated to another to make. The apple pie is already assembled and in the freezer ready for baking on the day.
I have to head out today to do a little food shopping. Chorizo sausage (dry), apricots, hazelnuts, wild and brown rice for the stuffing, fresh cranberries and oranges for the relish, yams and baking potatoes...
Is it nap time yet?
Have a great week folks.
Be careful out there.
